Chronic Neck and Shoulder Pain

This client had chronic neck and shoulder pain for 2 years and we were able to find some drills that made a difference!

In this video the before was filmed by a friend and the after was after our first appointment. This client was in a bad accident and her symptoms got worse over 18 months. Her doctors were puzzled on what was going on. Eventually she couldn't walk without falling down and needed a cane. We were able to help!

When I started seeing you for massage therapy, I described all my problems over the years from pain. Please note that by purchasing these services, all sales are final and no refunds will be given. If a session needs to be rescheduled or cancelled, please provide a 24 hour notice.  If the session is cancelled under the 24 hour period, there will be a $50 cancellation fee. All sessions expire within 12 months of purchase, excluding annual memberships, or special package offers. Please pay attention to the expiration policy of those agreements.


 

My Story… 

With over 20 years in the health and fitness industry, working with thousands of clients, I still consider myself a life-long learner. I always pride myself on the notion that if I don’t know how to solve a specific problem, I go and search for the answers.

At the start of my career I was excited about helping people. I naively believed that the science I was taught in school and my certifications was pretty much black and white and held all the answers. I had no idea that science in fact, is not set in stone. It is an ongoing conversation that can and will change as new information arises.

The more I experimented with different diets, fitness programs, modalities and philosophies, the more confused I became as a professional.

It seemed that every other year new information would come out.

Eggs are good for you. Eggs are bad for you…

Carbs are good, now they’re bad.

It was making me crazy!

Not to mention that while I worked on my own health and my clients’ health, I’d get results for a while… but one size didn’t seem to fit all.

There would be a plateau, or set back that would come up that my knowledge of science couldn’t solve.

In 2009 I learned about Paleo, and low carb eating. The information seemed to make sense and so I cut carbs, sugar, dairy, grains, caffeine, and legumes with the idea that these things caused inflammation, and cutting them out was the secret to being healthy for life.

For the first 9 months, I felt great. I had high energy, and was working out all the time…

But I still had painful periods, high anxiety, bloating and bouts of depression.

Overtime I started to feel worse with increased anxiety, and more sleep issues. I started craving carbs and would binge eat. Then I’d become more strict to overcompensate.

After a few years I realized low carb eating was unsustainable. I moved into more flexible dieting. It seemed to make sense with all of the conflicting information on nutrition and honestly I felt like the strict paleo eating turned into a disorder for me.

I got into the kettlebell and powerlifting scene. Functional movement was also big during this time, and high intensity interval training. I would do really hard workouts and ladders thinking the fitter I was = the healthier I would be. I even started running obstacle course races.

I became the leanest I have ever been...

But I started getting injured seemingly out of nowhere.

I’d tweak a knee, tweak my back, get mystery shoulder pain and stiff necks etc.

I of course sought out all kinds of different modalities like chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, craniosacral therapy, cold laser, e-stim, frequency modalities, foam rolling, etc.

These would help for a short time until I got another mystery pain or injury that would set me back again.

Things finally changed when I was introduced to Z-Health. I met a trainer who did Z-Heatlh and he was able to get rid of my shoulder pain and stiff neck in one session doing a vision drill!

I couldn’t believe it!

I worked with this trainer for about 6 months doing drills that targeted my nervous system mixed in with kettlebell and barbell training. I was able to get stronger than I had ever been without getting injured, and I was so excited. I still had painful periods, depression, and anxiety, but I felt like I was on the right track.

I continued my flexible dieting and supplements, eating mostly organic whole foods, and keeping my carbs on the lower side. Over time my sleep started to suffer and I started taking melatonin every night to sleep.

Fast forward to 2016, my life changed instantly.

I was in a car accident and suffered from whiplash and a concussion.

My short term memory became non existant, I couldn’t calculate simple math, my vision would get blurry, I had pain from my neck down to my tailbone and in both hands and feet. I couldn’t workout without pain.

My depression got worse. My sleep got worse. My periods got worse. I was desperate to get better.

I got some relief with the usual chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture, but it was slow progress.

Then 4 months later, my brother died and it was like my body had gone through another car accident over night. Everything that was already not working well, became worse than before.

 At this point I made the decision to get certified in Z-Health. I started to prepare for my first course R-Phase in December of 2016. I was amazed that my pain and stiffness went away completely for most of the day when I practiced the drills.

By my second course, I-phase, my body felt better… but my grief, depression, and concussion symptoms still affected my everyday life.

Until what seemed like a miracle happened.

I did a banded ankle circle with my colleague, and it was like my personality changed in seconds. The weight of the world fell from my shoulders and suddenly I felt normal, even happy, and I was shocked! It stayed with me for the rest of the weekend!

How could something that simple make such a dramatic change?

By the end of my first year I felt better, but I still dealt with debilitating concussion symptoms…

And then I got sick.

I had an upper respiratory infection that would not go away for 6 months! I was frustrated, and baffled. Not to mention I suddenly put on 15 lbs.

I asked a colleague for help, and he started to teach me about thyroid function. He shared with me the research of Dr. Ray Peat, Dr. Constance Martin, Dr. Broda Barnes, Dr. Katarina Dalton, and so many others that have been suppressed by the pharmaceutical, and food lobbies.

I started to add carbs and sugar back into my diet. I ate more salt, and drank real milk instead of almond milk. I learned how to read labels and avoid toxic additives. I cut out polyunsaturated fatty acids aka PUFA, and stopped the green salads and cruciferous veggies.

Literally within 48 hours my cold was gone! I started to feel better than I had in years!

After 6 months, my periods became regular and less painful, my sleep improved dramatically, and my constant anxiety and depression was gone.

After 2 years, my concussion symptoms were improved dramatically, and by the third year my brain actually worked better than it did before the accident!

I was able to workout without pain, and without getting injured or sick.

I haven’t looked back since.

Today I help my clients overcome their health obstacles, build resilience, get strong, and create the life they desire by focusing on them as the individual.

l am obsessed with results, and if I have learned anything in the last 20 years, it is that the best results come when you work closely with a coach. A coach can help you see what you can’t, and keep you accountable to what you say you’re going to do. Sometimes we may need to change the goal to something more appropriate for your current lifestyle.
